Whether in industry or government, the art of governance is concerned with ensuring business objectives are accomplished. In a cybersecurity context, governance means putting all the right mechanisms in place to ensure no cyber threat will impede organizational objectives. Risks will be mitigated, data protected yet available to authorized users, and the functionality of IT will be focused on empowering users to achieve business goals. Governance encompasses policy, procedure, organization, workforce education, training, employee selection and technology architectures. Governance enables businesses to outperform their rivals in the market. Governance enables agencies to enhance citizen service while protecting data, and enables national security organizations to enhance the nation’s defense. The cybersecurity components of good governance are the focus of this panel.

Panelists will examine questions such as:

  • What best practices exist to ensure the entire executive team is aware of their role in mitigating threats?
  • How can organizations better educate and train their workforce on their role in mitigating threats?
  • What is the role of a CISO in the public sector? What about the private sector? Why would it be different?
  • What steps can be put in place to ensure organizational goals are accomplished regarding cybersecurity?
