Tom Reed is the Director of Solution Architects for NVIDIA focusing on the United States Department of Defense (DoD), and the Intelligence Community. Mr. Reed’s work at NVIDIA spans the technology gamut from scalable high performance grid and cluster systems used for data processing and analytics to visualization and the new ways people interact with technology in the cloud. Recently, the application of deep learning techniques to computer vision and next generation uses of sensor data has become an exciting area of study.
Prior to NVIDIA, Mr. Reed spent eighteen years with Silicon Graphics where he held various positions including Director of Engineering for Visualization and Director of Professional Services. Past work includes initiatives in interactive parallel computing, integrated real-time visualization, and hybrid computing architectures.
Mr. Reed spends as much time as possible understanding customer challenges and values the insight gained through interaction across disciplines and markets. Mr. Reed’s career has always involved some combination of high performance computing (HPC) and visualization. He actively promotes data centric architectures as an important underpinning for productively advancing IT capabilities.
In addition to SGI, Mr. Reed has worked for Linuxcare, General Dynamics, and MacDonnell Douglas Corporation as well as research contracts with Kirkland Air Force Base, Arnold Engineering Development Center (AEDC), and NASA. Mr. Reed attended Iowa State University for both undergraduate and graduate studies, majoring in Aerospace Engineering with graduate research in Computation Fluid Dynamics (CFD). He currently lives with his wife Lisa in the hill country west of Austin, TX helping with the family vineyard and winery.
